Assortment Pro
Want to expand and deepen your knowledge of trees and shrubs? In the Assortment Pro course, you’ll learn to identify a wider range of species and genera, while working with key aspects such as provenance, varietal authenticity, and propagation methods. This course builds on your existing knowledge and helps you assess assortments more critically and with greater precision.
You’ll not only learn how to identify trees and shrubs based on external characteristics, but also how to use the Rassenlijst Bomen – the scientifically supported reference list of recommended provenances and cultivars for planting in the Netherlands.
In addition, you’ll explore how trees are propagated and why choosing the right propagation method is essential for quality and suitability in green projects.
This is a practice-based course held at our nursery, allowing you to immediately apply your knowledge in the field.

Specifications
This course is intended for green professionals who already have a basic understanding of plant assortment and want to deepen their knowledge of identification, provenance, and propagation of trees and shrubs. It is especially relevant for:
- Gardeners and arborists involved in plant selection and tree planting
- Landscape architects and designers selecting trees for projects
- Green space managers and policymakers making decisions for long-term green management
After completing this course, you’ll not only be able to recognise trees and shrubs, but also assess their quality and suitability for specific projects. You will learn:
- The various methods of propagating trees and shrubs
- The differences between generative (seed) and vegetative (cutting, grafting, budding) propagation – and why these matter
- How to identify the provenance and varietal authenticity of trees and shrubs
- How to use the Rassenlijst Bomen to select the appropriate cultivars and provenances
- How to identify 40 genera and species by branches, buds, leaves, flowers, and other characteristics
By combining this knowledge, you’ll be able to make well-informed decisions in practice and select trees that perform optimally in their planting site.
This course is held at our nursery in Sint-Oedenrode, a unique setting where you can study trees and shrubs at various stages of growth. You won’t just be learning theory, you’ll be working directly with practical, real-life examples.
Theoretical sessions take place in De Groene Ruimte, our modern training facility. From there, we regularly head out into the field to observe and identify trees and shrubs up close.
